Meets current rail operator demands for low investment cable solutions that uses existing ducts to transfer power and low frequency signal transmission to 40 kHz
InnoTrans, Berlin, September 21, 2010 – Draka Communications, a global leader in the cabling and optical fiber industry introduces a versatile combined signalling cable that combines power transmission and low frequency signal capability of 40 kHz within a single cable to offer a cost effective solution to meet the standards of new traffic signalling technology. Draka’s cable meets DB AG PH 416.0118 specifications while replying to railway demands to provide services and security with lower investments as part of upgrading and rail infrastructure renovation programs.
With this cable, Draka has developed a durable packaged solution combining quad and core stranding in a compact, shock and water resistant sheath which results in space savings when the cable is laid within an existing duct system. This innovative cable design, giving a choice of cores for power and data communications, can add considerable savings by reducing manpower, material and installation costs for railway networks.
The new combined cable has a symmetrical construction that includes four solid 0.9 mm copper cores bundled to form a quad within an inner polyethylene sheath which is extruded over the core and is aluminium screened. The 1.4 mm power cores are concentrically applied around the quad core, with steel reinforcement inside a black polyethylene sheath. An alternative 7 quad/10 power cable combination is also available.
