Draka’s SmartDrawXS innovative concept revolves around using a specialty cable as the heart of the operation. This cable is filled with loose fiber modules designed to have low friction properties.
Window-cuts can be made at multiple points along the cable length, allowing fiber modules to be cut and pulled back. These modules are then pushed or blown through microducts to the customer premises. When used indoors the SmartDrawXS technique is referred to as the RiserNetXS solution. When used outdoors it is referred to as the RetractaNetXS solution.
Retractable riser cables
Utilizing the advantages of BendBrightXS fibers, Draka has developed a series of specialty cables that contain retractable fiber modules. These modules are soft enough to be flexible and easy to handle. At the same time they are stiff enough to retract long distances within the cable and be pushed or blown through small microducts.
The DomoJet Tool
The SmartDrawXS Technique is further mproved through the invention of a customized tool. An effort to eliminate human errors led to the development of the DomoJet in cooperation with Plumettaz SA, Draka’s long-standing co-development partner.
The cable design, the design of the tool and the way it interacts with the fiber modules have been aligned so that the tool leverages the advantages of Draka’s BendBrightXS fibers. The tool works perfectly with Draka’s customized tapping boxes, whether placed in a trench, duct and handhole, or a narrow riser shaft in a MDU.
