Outside Plant Drop Solution: Connecting with Direct Buried Drop Cable

Draka OSP Drop Solutions employ direct buried cable without ducts or microducts, so greatly simplifying network deployment between the final OSP distribution point and the customer building or premises. Draka offers three OSP drop solutions.

Low Fiber Count (1-24) cable. Low fiber count (1-24) cables are ideal for a direct buried drop. Metal-free is usually the design of choice, but Draka produces many types of armoring as well. This protection, combined with a crush resistant jacket, ensures that the last bit of fiber reaches its destination without disruption.

Indoor/Outdoor (LSZH) cable. Draka’s wide range of standard designs are typically customized to meet specific customer requirements. For example, Draka offers several variants of indoor/outdoor drop cables that are LSZH and flame retardant, so the OSP cable can enter the building without the need for a splice point.

Medium Fiber Count (48–96) cable. Our Medium Fiber Count (24-96) cables employ a similar design to our Low Fiber Count cables, but typically differ in the armoring used. While metal-free is the most common, steel tape and steel wire are frequent alternatives. Highly crush resistant, Draka Medium Fiber Count cables are extremely robust and protect the fibers from severe weight and climatic pressures.

The peninsula Qatar is rich in oil and gas and intends to become a role model for economic progress in the region. One example is the construction of Energy City Qatar, aspiring to be ‘the world’s most technologically advanced development of its kind’. And who did the initiators call on to design, engineer and implement an advanced fiber optic network? Draka, indeed.
In spite of the wireless-hype, wire and cable continue to play a crucial role in making triple-play applications possible. The technical solution that guarantees top speeds is glass fiber. Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) brings this superfast data highway right into the home and business. This is already the case in about 10 percent of Amsterdam, thanks to a partnership between Draka and Citynet.
