Draka does it all in Energy City Qatar
The peninsula Qatar is rich in oil and gas and intends to become a role model for economic progress in the region. One example is the construction of Energy City Qatar, aspiring to be ‘the world’s most technologically advanced development of its kind’. And who did the initiators call on to design, engineer and implement an advanced fiber optic network? Draka, indeed.
In a dessert land, north of Qatar’s capital Doha, a completely new city is to be constructed. Road works, underground railway, utilities… and of course fiber optics have to be put in beforehand to service this future business park.
Fiber to the Floor
Fiber to the Home, or in case of offices, Fiber to the Floor (FttF) is the present day technical solution for data communications. This superfast data highway guarantees top speeds through glass fiber to the individual office floor. Energy City Qatar will have an FttF network in place before the actual offices are built.
Turnkey
The Energy City Qatar management has awarded the advanced fiber optic network contract to Draka. The company will do much more than supply the cables as the contract is a full turnkey project. This means that Draka ‘will take responsibility for the design and engineering of the entire network, supply of all materials, installation, commissioning and final documentation.’ That is a lot to chew but Draka people know they can handle it.
