Draka connects Turkish cities
Turkey is building a high-speed train connection between the cities of Ankara and Konya. It is part of a big and prestigious project to develop and enhance the country’s railway network. Draka was awarded the contract to supply the Ankara-Konya line with signaling and communication cables as well as optical fiber.
It is about 212 km long and it intends to solve the inter-city transportation problems. The high-speed railway connection between Ankara and Konya will provide comfortable and fast passenger transportation. It is actually an extension of the Istanbul-Ankara line. In the bigger scheme of things, Turkey wants to connect all major cities with a high-speed rail connection. It is prestigious project attracting a keen interest from the national government.
250 km/hour design speed
The turn-key tender for the building of the railway connection was awarded to the company Yapı Merkezi. The scope was a double track railway line with a design speed of 250 km/hour. Signaling and communications cables, including optical fiber were part of this all-in contract. Amidst a lot of tough competition, Draka submitted a proposal for those elements. Together they amounted to over 2000 km of cables and fiber.
Close to the customer
Draka Communications takes pride in being close to the customer. That is particularly important in countries such as Turkey, and the Middle-East. Draka is also well-known as a big and stable company with excellent references including rail companies Thales, Deutsche Bahn and Spanish RENFE. Add to that a strong manufacturing base and a financially attractive offer, and it is no wonder that Draka won the tender. In fact, main contractor Yapı Merkezi has awarded the installation and commissioning contract of all the communication cables and communication systems to Draka. That says it all, doesn’t it?
