Over 200 km of cabling deployed for media and broadcast, CCTV connectivity and broadband data networks in Ukraine’s striking showcase stadium

IBC2010, Amsterdam, September 9, 2010 –  Draka Communications, a global leader in the cabling and optical fiber industry has announced that it has delivered over 200km of cables to contribute to the high tech network cabling requirements for DonBass Arena, the Ukraine’s showcase soccer stadium and host for FC Shakhtar in Donetsk.  The cabling project management and installation was handled by Draka’s local partner, MacHOUSE, a leading Ukrainian systems integrator.

Draka broadcast cables are deployed in the media and broadcast network to meet HDTV broadcast standards of global events, together with data communications cables for broadband data transmission, telephone and IP network infrastructure. In addition, Draka cabling solutions connect CCTV network and alarm systems, according to the high safety and security standards of the stadium. Draka cables were selected as they meet the highest quality standards for the latest broadcast technology ( HD TV, Dolby Digital 5.1), because of their compatibility with recognised international standards ( HD, SMPTE) as well as complying to international specifications ( IEC 60332-3-24).

MacHOUSE, the number one systems integrator in Ukraine performed the project analysis and feasability study and is responsible for project development and implementation, ongoing testing and adjustment , training of personnel and ongoing service and support to the stadium. With 17 years of experience in broadcast and cabling installations, MacHOUSE has implemented many similar innovative projects in Eastern Europe

DonBass Arena in the centre of Donetsk in Ukraine accomodates 50,000 spectators, and is the first stadium in Eastern Europe designed and built to meet UEFA regulations for elite stadiums. The facility is located in the center of the city, in the Lenin Comsomol park. Intended for 50,000 spectators, the Stadium will host FC Shakhtar Donetsk matches and some soccer matches in Euro 2012

The Donbass Arena is an exceptional engineering solution with its soaring roof effect  that makes the Stadium resemble a flying saucer. Its oval shape and glazed façade ensure a striking presence in the city. The roof of the Stadium slopes from north to south matching the landscape and contributes to the natural lighting and air ventilation of the pitch. External lighting makes the Stadium sparkle like a diamond at night.

The interior design accommodates all fans in a single bowl rather than in four separate stands. The unique character of the Donbass Arena is expressed through its special atmosphere due to the 100 % visibility of the football pitch from any place within the stands. An area comprised of 196 positions has been designed for wheelchair users and their carers. The Donbass Arena also accommodates three restaurants, four bars for season card holders, a lounge bar, dozens of fast foods, a fitness centre, as well as a fan-café, a museum and FC Shakhtar merchandise shop.
