Claremont, North Carolina, August 9, 2010 (NYSE EURONEXT: DRAK) – Draka Communications Americas, one of the leading fiber optic cable manufacturers, announces the introduction of a new line of indoor drop cables intended for use in multi-dwelling units and multi-tenant units.  Branded under the name Draka Indoor MDU Drop, this fiber drop cable is designed to meet the rigorous installation conditions of apartments, condominiums, high rise buildings and business retail centers.  Draka’s MDU Drop Cable provides the installation contractor with peace of mind before, during and after installation.  Using Draka’s portfolio of bend insensitive fibers, the result is a fiber cable that offers forgiveness and robustness when installing and mounting the cable from the access point to the end user.

Available immediately, Draka’s MDU drop cable is available in a wide variety of options to meet end user requirements:

      a) Choice of Draka’s BendBright-Elite fiber (5 mm fiber bend radius) or Draka’s

BendBright-XS fiber (7.5 mm fiber bend radius)

     b) Indoor riser, Indoor Plenum or Indoor Outdoor riser ratings

     c) Bulk unconnectorized cable or with factory installed SCA connectors.

“This cable was designed and tested with the installation crew in mind.  It will save time, money and rework because this new cable is forgiving and can be easily routed around common obstacles such as studs, conduit, exit signs, water and utility pipes, etc.   Less time and effort will be required with pre-planning or pre-engineering the cable route” states Jack Rosko, Marketing Manager at Draka.

Draka offers two choices of bend insensitive fiber to be used with the MDU Drop Cable.  Using Draka’s premium BendBright-Elite fiber, the MDU Drop cable can tolerate up to 170 ninety degree bends and more than 500 round crown staples without attenuating more than 0.1 dB.   Through the use of Draka’s BendBright-XS fiber, the MDU Drop Cable can tolerate up to 50 ninety degree bends and 200 round crown staples without attenuating more than 0.1 dB.  The MDU Drop cable meets OFNR / FT-4 flame ratings and is compliant with GR-409 and ICEA 596.

Draka introduced its first generation of bend insensitive fiber in 2002 and has since sold over six billion feet of bend insensitive fiber.  Draka offers three levels of bend insensitive single-mode fiber under the BendBright brand name.  In April 2010, Draka Americas also announced MaxCap-BB-OM3 and OM4, high bandwidth multimode fibers leveraging BendBright Technology, as the standard fiber in all 50 micron OM3 an OM4 multimode fiber cables.
